The fore peak was not making water but the chain

locker was. Nos. 1, 2, and 3 holds were not

making water.

There was no cargo in the ship and

I then returned to the bridge and reported

to the Master. Approximately hour later the Carpenter reported Nos. 1 & 2 holds had water in them. The Master and myself discussed the possi- bility of taking the ship off the rocks and beaching her in a lee but owing to Nos. 1 & 2 holds being holed and the fact that there were several vessels in the vicinity it was decided that we would first disembark the passengers.
